1. What do you do, and how long have you been doing it?

I am an Artist and student at Angelo State University studying Studio Art with a concentration in Graphic Design. I’ve been making art ever since I was a child, and I am now working towards making it into a creative career!

2. What was your first job?

My first paid job is working as a Student Assistant for the “Eva Camúñez Tucker Up and Coming Scholars Program” at Angelo State University. My role is designing event/promotional material for events/social platforms and assisting in planning events that are tailored to high school students in preparation for continued education.

3. Where did you complete your formal education?

I’m in my second year of completing my formal education as a Studio Art Major with a concentration in Graphic Design at Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX! Go Rams!

4. How did you first get involved with ACM SIGGRAPH?

In my freshman year of College, I was assigned by my design professor to submit my work to the SpaceTime juried International Student Graphic Design Competition sponsored by the ACM SIGGRAPH Education Committee. We also had a presentation by a former ASU alumnus, Alex Bryant, about his experience at the SIGGRAPH conference which led to me also applying for the Student Volunteer Program. Later that year I was named 1st place winner of the competition, but also accepted into the SV Program for SIGGRAPH 2023! #ProudToBeSV

5. What is your favorite memory of a SIGGRAPH conference?

At my first conference, SIGGRAPH 2023 in Los Angeles, CA, I enjoyed getting to meet and talk with many other Student Volunteers from different parts of the world and also participating in the SIGGRAPH Scavenger Hunt they held where I won a 2022 Shay D. Pixel Bobblehead!
Another memorable time was during the conference, my two friends from my school, who also got accepted as SVs, and I wanted to take a picture with the SIGGRAPH mascot at the conference! We searched, found him, and took a group picture when they gave each of us a 50th Anniversary Pin!

6. Describe a project that you would like to share with the ACM SIGGRAPH community.

As president of the Graphic Design Club, I lead in giving students opportunities to participate and meet others with similar interests in the field of Art and Design! In October 2023, the Angelo State University Graphic Design Club hosted in partnership with the Friday Art Club, an Art show that combined Art and Design. This upcoming year, the club plans to give students opportunities through panels, talks, and workshops with Graphic Designers in the industry.

7. If you could have dinner with one living or non-living person, who would it be and why?

I would have dinner with American Singer and Songwriter Mitski because I’ve been listening to her songs for years and I love her music!

8. What is something most people don’t know about you?

Most people don’t know that I like to watch horror movies even if it scares me in the end haha.

9. From which single individual have you learned the most in your life? What did they teach you?

Artistically, I learned the most from my former High School Art Teachers. They taught me and greatly influenced me in my love for Art, which led me to pursue a degree in an artistically creative field.
In life, it is my mom. She has taught me to treat people with love, kindness, and respect, but to also be resilient whenever I’m faced with challenges and doubts.

10. Is there someone in particular who has influenced your decision to work with ACM SIGGRAPH?

Alex Bryant. Since he talked with my class about SIGGRAPH, he greatly encouraged my class to volunteer and be a part of ACM SIGGRAPH and to continue with it. With him also being the ASU Graphic Design Club’s Alumni Advisor, he also helps and collaborates (virtually) in many of the events we hold at the University!

11. What can you point to in your career as your proudest moment?

My top 3 proudest moments in my artistic career so far are:
1. Being a recipient of the Gold Seal Award at the TAEA State Vase Event in 2022
2. Receiving 1st place for my SIGGRAPH 2023 illustration in the Spacetime Competition
3. Making art for everyone to enjoy! :D
