Studio Chair


The Studio Chair leads a staff of volunteers to plan and implement a creative and robust workshop environment where conference attendees can experiment with various input and output technologies and explore preselected Conference work. The chair oversees Studio content, schedules activities, and coordinates acquisition of equipment and resources for this hands-on workshop.  The Studio Chair works closely with the Conference Chair, Conference Administration, volunteers, donors and contractors to create a creative and robust environment for attendees to receive hands-on experience with various output technologies.

Specific Responsibilities

The following list is a "high-level" view of the specific responsibilities associated with serving as The Studio Chair. The list is organized under general categories of responsibility.


  • Participate in strategic planning for SIGGRAPH
  • Create a strategic direction for The Studio including overall structure and coordination with the other programs


  • Recruit and manage a subcommittee to assist in supporting and implementing The Studio
  • Work closely with the program chairs to coordinate collaboration between program contributions and The Studio
  • Work with subcommittee and space designer to design a suitable area for The Studio
  • Work with donors and contractors to ensure on-site equipment and facilities are appropriate
  • Procure through purchase or donation the necessary equipment and connectivity to support The Studio
  • Provide sufficient information to donors and contributors to successfully present work in The Studio
  • Work with donors, contractors and volunteers to set up The Studio
  • Manage the on-site operation of The Studio
  • Work with donors, contributors and volunteers to tear down The Studio at the end of the conference


  • Work with the Conference Chair and Conference Administration to prepare preliminary and final conference budgets for The Studio
  • Manage The Studio budget to stay within the total budgeted amount for the program


  • Develop the Studio section of the Call for Participation
  • Review copies of promotional materials and publications to ensure accurate Studio information
  • Assist the Publications Chair in the collection and format of any published material from the Studio


  • Maintain awareness and compliance with all conference policies and procedures
  • Create and maintain a complete Program Plan
  • Report regularly to the Conference Chair and Conference Administration on status of the Studio
  • Facilitate and participate in timely communication with donors, subcommittee, other committee chairs, and contributors to provide direction and solve problems
  • Produce a final report by the wrapup meeting in September describing The Studio effort, changes from previous years, and lessons learned


  • Attend and participate in all conference committees meetings
  • Organize and implement effective Studio subcommittee meetings as necessary
  • Attend Unified Jury and Scheduling meetings to select wide variety of hands on and interactive technology
