Computational Aesthetics bridges the analytic and synthetic by integrating aspects of computer science, philosophy, psychology, and the fine, applied & performing arts. It seeks to facilitate both the analysis and the augmentation of creative behaviours. CAe also investigates the creation of tools that can enhance the expressive power of the fine and applied arts and furthers our understanding of aesthetic evaluation, perception and meaning.

The conference will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, June 20–22, 2015. A single registration for Expressive 2015 will include all three symposia.

Invited talks and artist talks will be shared among the conferences, and sessions will be mixed. Participants will be able to freely switch between the sessions, so as to see the talks of their own field of work and also be inspired by talks from related domains. The submission, review, and publication process for the event will be handled jointly across the three conferences.

President Obama Lands the First 3D Presidential Portrait
Tags: Graphics, Modeling
By Kristy Barkan

In his 2013 State of the Union address, President Obama made room in his speech to talk about a subject that some may have found an odd choice for a presidential address: 3D printing. His comments on 3D printing were positive, noting that the technology "has the potential to revolutionize the way we make almost everything." A little over a year later, President Obama's prediction was proven true -- and in a rather personal way.

Advances in Achieving Photoreal Digital Actors (Video)
Tags: Modeling, Research, Technology

Somewhere between "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" (2001) and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (2008), digital actors evolved from talking dolls to lifelike human beings. Today, computer-generated actors are often so realistic that audiences have trouble distinguishing live performers from digital fabrications. How did such a monumental improvement in the realism of CG humans happen over such a short period of time?

Design and modeling are concepts and activities common to several disciplines in Science, Education, and Technology. Consequently, design and modeling provide effective concepts, theories, methodologies, and tools for intra- and inter-disciplinary communications. The World Multi-Conference on Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics: WMSCI might provide synergic relationships with a conference on Design and Modeling, and vice versa.
