Educators Program: Submission Rules & Requirements

Submission Deadline
All submissions to the Educators Program must be complete by 9 June 2009, 23:59 UTC/GMT.

Who Should Submit
Educators at all levels and disciplines, including faculty, department chairs, administrators, instructional designers, technology integration specialists, and media professionals.

K-12 educators, including those from specialized schools that are utilizing computer graphics for learning topics such as science, mathematics, and physics.

Educational researchers and developers who are focused on utilizing computer graphics within learning technologies.

Training consultants, media specialists, and anyone intrigued by the ways computer graphics and interactive techniques are changing the way we conceptualize information.

Instructional designers working outside traditional educational environments, such as museums, galleries, historical centers, and performing arts programs.

  • 3D computer game tool for teaching programming to computer art students.
  • Building a stronger cultural framework for global teams.
  • Collaborative teams, roles of art directors, animators, writers, programmers, etc.

Presentation Formats
The Educators Program provides several opportunities for you to present your work:

Education Papers on all aspects, both theoretical and proven, of educating with computer graphics and/or interactive techniques. Presentations should run 30 minutes including questions and answers.

Panels of up to four people, who present ideas and give individual perspectives. Length: 1 to 1.5 hours with time for questions from the audience.

Workshops provide brief intensive courses or seminars emphasizing interaction and exchange of information among participants. Length: 1.5 to 3 hours with time for questions from the audience.

Please indicate on the submission form which category is most appropriate for your presentation.

Use the checklist below to ensure that your submission is complete and meets all applicable program requirements.

Complete the SIGGRAPH Asia 2009 Online Educators Program Submission Form. There you will find instructions on how to complete the online form. When you begin the form, your submission will be assigned an online ID number that will be used to identify your submission throughout the review process.

For supplemental submission materials, please use the file upload form in the submission system. If you need to submit physical materials please contact the Educators Program Chair.

Your proposal must be submitted in PDF and must include the following:

  • Your submission category (Papers, Panels, Workshop), anticipated experience level (novice, intermediate, advanced, expert), and a brief explanation stating why that category is most appropriate. Please include sufficient detail for evaluation.
  • For a paper submission, an abstract and a paper example is sufficient for the jury process. Please put the title and author name(s) on the first page of the paper to be uploaded, along with your online ID number. If your submission is accepted, this information will appear in conference publications. A complete paper must be submitted if the paper is accepted.
  • For a panel submission, an abstract and other supporting documentation and examples is fine for the jury process. Please put the title and panelists on the first page of the proposal document to be uploaded, along with your online ID number. If your submission is accepted, this information will appear in conference publications. More detailed information on the panel must be submitted if the abstract is accepted.
  • For a workshop submission, an abstract and other supporting documentation and examples is fine for the jury process. Please put the title and presenter(s) on the first page of the proposal document to be uploaded, along with your online ID number. If your submission is accepted, this information will appear in conference publications. More detailed information on the workshop must be submitted if the abstract is accepted.
  • Include name(s) of the speaker(s) and a list of all collaborators, their affiliations, and contact information: email address (required), address, work phone, home phone (optional). Indicate the primary contact if there are multiple presenters.
  • All proposals should include a short (100 words or less) biography of each participant, including relevant experience. In addition, contributors are encouraged to add a brief statement of their unique viewpoints on the topics of the presentation.
  • OPTIONAL: Use the English Review Service to help with the text of your submission.
  • The submission and jury process for SIGGRAPH Asia 2009 is the same as for the annual SIGGRAPH conference. Authors should prepare their papers according to the ACM SIGGRAPH publication guidelines (PDF) and use the acmsiggraphac LaTeX class files.
  • If your proposal is accepted, you will be required to submit a PDF document for publication. Examples of published Educators Program documents:

Customs
Submitters located outside of Japan should note that customs delays of up to two weeks could occur. Customs labels should bear the words: "Educational material with no commercial value." SIGGRAPH Asia 2009 will not pay any customs fees, duties, or tariffs incurred by your submission.
