On Friday, October 4 in Beverly Hills, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will host "This Amazing Medium," an animation master class and retrospective with Oscar®-winning animator Richard Williams.
On September 11, the film festival portion of SPARK Animation '13 begins in Vancouver, Canada. The five-day event will showcase a wide range of animated projects, from independent works to special premieres. Opening with Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Get a Horse!" directed by Lauren MacMullan, the festival will offer audiences something different each evening.
The Japan Media Arts Festival is a comprehensive festival of Media Arts (Media Geijutsu) that honors outstanding works from a diverse range of media – from animation and comics to media art and games. The festival gives awards in each of its four divisions; Art, Entertainment, Animation, and Manga. It also provides a platform for appreciation of the award-winning and other notable works.
On Monday July 22, nine legendary animation film directors climbed the stage at SIGGRAPH 2013 for the Marc Davis Lecture Series: Giants' First Steps. For an hour and a half, the men shared stories and laughs, providing the audience a rare glimpse into the lives of some of the biggest names in the animation world.
The Symposium on Computer Animation was established in 2002 to provide a forum where researchers and practioners in computer animation could interact on a smaller and more intimate scale than a conference such as SIGGRAPH and Eurographics.
Showing Monday through Thursday (July 22 to July 25), the SIGGRAPH 2013 Computer Animation Festival showcases an eclectic mix of the finest work in computer graphics from the last 12 months. The Computer Animation Festival is recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as a qualifying festival. Since 1999, several works originally presented in the Computer Animation Festival have been nominated for or have received a “Best Animated Short” Academy Award.
