SIGGRAPH 2006 Art Gallery Showcases Live Electronic Performances in Boston

(Chicago, IL) - The SIGGRAPH 2006 Art Gallery: Intersections is hosting a series of electronically mediated dance, theater, music, magic, and hybrid performances at SIGGRAPH 2006, the 33rd International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques held 30 July to 3 August 2006 in Boston, Massachusetts.

The performances include internationally recognized artists who develop and use technology to create multi-sensory experiences. Many of these artists will be performing in Boston for the first time.

Highlights include: SIGGRAPH 2006 performances will also occur throughout Boston as Julie Andrevey (Canada) and collaborators showcase VJ Fleet [redux], three cars that will travel through the streets of Boston gathering visual and audio material. At various locations, the cars will stop and play back the digitally remixed audio and manipulated visuals.

In addition, Daniel Sauter (USA) will drive around downtown Boston projecting an over-sized walking figure onto buildings. The figure's speed is determined by the speed of the car and when the car stops at red lights, the figure sits or lies down and relaxes. Another off-stage performance will feature artists walking throughout the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center wearing vests that project their inner thoughts outward on LED wearable displays.

Please note: Multiple high-resolution images are available as well as private interviews with Bonnie Mitchell, the SIGGRAPH 2006 Art Gallery Chair from Bowling Green State University.

SIGGRAPH 2006 will bring an estimated 25,000 computer graphics and interactive technology professionals from six continents to Boston, USA for the industry's most respected technical and creative programs focusing on research, science, art, animation, gaming, interactivity, education, and the web from 30 July to 3 August 2006. SIGGRAPH 2006 includes a three-day exhibition of products and services from the computer graphics and interactive marketplace from 1-3 August 2006. More than 250 international exhibiting companies are expected. Registration for the conference and exhibition is open to the public.
