GAIA was made entirely with a propietary program, running on a standard PC, for creating series of images based on the evolution and mutation of image-generation algorithms. At each iteration, the user chooses one of the proposed images, which acts as the progenitor of a new series, and so on. The procedure is inspired by the evolution of life. Following a "genetic code," the forms are born, reproduce, and die, but instead of "survival of the fittest" the rule is "selection of the most attractive."
