Project Details

"Focus plus context screens are wall-size, low-resolution displays with an embedded, high-resolution display region. Focus plus context screens allow users to view details of a document up close, while simultaneously seeing peripheral parts of the document in lower resolution. Application areas range from geographic information systems to interactive simulations and games."

For the SIGGRAPH demonstration, the prototype context display is a large 4x3 foot projection surface for low-resolution display. Within the projection surface (foam core) is embedded an LCD monitor that functions as the high-resolution focus display. Customized software controls display image content across both screens. Content panned into the focus region is viewed in higher detail while preserving its scaling. Viewing satellite imagery allows resolving both cars and major landmarks in the same view.
