Project Details

"Visual immersion plays an important role in virtual environments. In Garnet Vision, the emphasis is on how to build a full solid-angle display in a limited space."

Head-mounted displays limit their users field of view. Dome or screen display require large theater-like spaces.

Using criteria of pixel efficiency (density across facets) and space efficiency (ratio of display surfaces to overall dead volume of space required for rear-projection), the researchers selected a rhombic dodecahedron screen in which a viewer can stand surrounded by 12 projectors in the space the size of a small room. Each projector also has a speaker for amplified sound.
