Project Details

The "Virtual Kabuki System" demonstrates a real-time facial expression detection and reproduction system to drive expressions in 3D models of Kabuki actors.

The system consists of three main modules: face modeling, facial expression detection, and reproduction which involves translation of captured expression to the virtual model. Tracking of features is accomplished through special helmets and stereo thermograph cameras.

The application can be applied to personified agents (avatars) in 3D virtual environments to enhance communication fidelity.
