Project Details
- "Knowledge From Beauty" is a constraint-based 3D modeler of vessel forms and expert system that analyzes user aesthetic preferences in order to display models that are predicted to be favorable to the designer.
- The interface allows for generation of simple 3D vessel forms defined by seven control points. The control points can be restricted to meet user constraints (such as ergonomics). Then control points are generated randomly within their limits. The results are rated on a seven-point preference scale by the user. After some experience with the user, the program can begin to converge on user preferences and reject geometries predicted to be disliked.
- "Knowledge From Beauty" originated as an industrial design master's thesis at the University of Illinois at Chicago's Design Visualization Laboratory.
