Games have become a very important medium for education, therapy and entertainment. Motion plays a crucial role in computer games. Characters move around, objects are manipulated or move due to physical constraints, entities are animated, and the camera moves through the scene. Even the motion of the player nowadays is used as input to games. Motion is currently studied in many different areas of research, including graphics and animation, game technology, robotics, simulation, computer vision, and also physics, psychology, and urban studies.
To advance research in the virtual reality continuum fields, VRCAI 2014 seeks to provide a forum for scientists, researchers, developers, users and industry leaders in the international VRC community to come together to share experiences, exchange ideas and spur one another in the knowledge of this fast-growing field. As a joint conference of SIGGRAPH ASIA 2014, VRCAI 2014 will take place just before SIGGRAPH Asia 2014.
The annual ACM Web3D Conference is a major event which unites researchers, developers, entrepreneurs, experimenters, artists and content creators in a dynamic learning environment. Attendees share and explore methods of using, enhancing and creating new 3D Web and Multimedia technologies such as X3D, VRML, Collada, MPEG family, U3D, Java3D and other technologies. The conference also focuses on recent trends in interactive 3D graphics, information integration and usability in the wide range of Web3D applications from mobile devices to high-end immersive environments.
On September 11, the film festival portion of SPARK Animation '13 begins in Vancouver, Canada. The five-day event will showcase a wide range of animated projects, from independent works to special premieres. Opening with Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Get a Horse!" directed by Lauren MacMullan, the festival will offer audiences something different each evening.
Thursday was the last opportunity for attendees to check out Emerging Technologies, the Art Gallery and the Studio. All three venues closed at 1pm. Meanwhile, the Computer Animation Festival went out with a bang with the final showing of this year’s Electronic Theater and two Production Sessions.
Large crowds turned out for the morning production session “The Visual Effects of Marvel’s ‘Iron Man 3,’” which was followed by the chance for attendees to take pictures of the Iron Man maquettes.
Throughout the day, SIGGRAPH Mobile presented the latest advances in mobile technologies through talks, workshops and demonstrations.
On Monday July 22, nine legendary animation film directors climbed the stage at SIGGRAPH 2013 for the Marc Davis Lecture Series: Giants' First Steps. For an hour and a half, the men shared stories and laughs, providing the audience a rare glimpse into the lives of some of the biggest names in the animation world.
The Exhibition Floor and Job Fair opening were met with excitement from attendees. If you didn’t get a chance to visit them today, don’t worry. Both events will be open until the conference closes on Thursday so you can still grab some swag and meet some people.
The day was busy as attendees raced from session to session. The Exhibits Fast Forward Preview and The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Marc Davis Lecture Series Keynote Session: Giants’ First Steps were particular crowd favorites.
