(Los Angeles) -- SIGGRAPH 99 drew 42,690 to its week-long conference and exhibition in Los Angeles, 8 13 August 1999. At SIGGRAPH 99, the 26th International Conference on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, computer graphics professionals from six continents gathered to showcase the latest developments and to chart the future of the technology into the next century.
The SIGGRAPH 99 exhibition featured the products and services of 337 companies in 154,400 square feet of exhibit space.
"SIGGRAPH 99 presented an unique interwoven tapestry of programs, services, and events that captured and showcased the best of the international computer graphics and interactive techniques community," said Warren N. Waggenspack, Jr., SIGGRAPH 99 Conference Chair.
Electronic Theater Special Recognition Awards Announced
SIGGRAPH 99 was the inaugural year for special recognition awards for outstanding entries in the Electronic Theater. The Computer Animation Festival jury chose two excellent works from more than 650 submitted entries based on their extraordinary achievements in computer graphics technique and storytelling.
"Bunny," written and directed by Chris Wedge, Blue Sky Studios, received Best of Show. "Masks," directed by Piotr Karwas, Filmakademie Baden-Wurttemberg was awarded the Jury Prize.
SIGGRAPH 2000 Returns to New Orleans
