SIGGRAPH 97's technical program was organized in five tracks:

Virtual Reality
Creation of an immersive interaction with virtual environments.

Big Data
Construction, manipulation, management, and display of extremely complex graphical databases.

Animation & Special Effects
Producing and using computer graphics techniques for animation, special effects, and other entertainment applications.

Art & Design
New technologies and techniques for art and design, and examples of artistic expression using computer graphics.

API
Descriptions and comparisons of graphics programming standards.

"Tracks are common threads that pass through more than one part of the technical program. The new, simplified fee structure introduced at SIGGRAPH 97 provides broader access to all parts of the technical program and makes participation in the technical program tracks an option open to all Full Conference registrants."
