Art Papers Editor

Overview

The Art Papers Editor manages SIGGRAPH’s forum for honoring artists and their artwork, as well as their process of making art and its place in society.  Art Papers illuminate and explore the changing roles of artists and the methods of art-making in our increasingly networked and computationally mediated world.  Art Papers presented at SIGGRAPH are also published in a special issue of PACMCGIT, the Proceedings of the ACM on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques.

The Art Papers Editor serves as the Guest Editor for the special issue of PACMCGIT, in addition to recruiting and supervising a committee of expert reviewers representing a diverse disciplinary field.  The editor also oversees interactions with contributors to assist in editing papers for publishing, presenting at Conference and onsite requirements.

The SIGGRAPH Art Papers Editor is responsible for the planning, selection process, and implementation of the annual conference Art Papers program. The Art Papers Editor works closely with the Conference Chair, the Conference Event Director, the Art Advisory Group, volunteers, and contractors to produce a premier program. Note: appointment to this position requires at least 1 year experience as a Juror for the Art Papers program.

Specific Responsibilities

The following list is a “high-level” view of the specific responsibilities associated with serving as a Art Papers Editor. The list is organized under general categories of responsibility.

Strategic

  • Participate in strategic planning for the SIGGRAPH Conference
  • Create a strategic direction for the Art Papers’ program including technical focus, emphasis areas, and new initiatives

Management

  1. Recruit and manage a subcommittee to assist in administering the Art Papers program
  2. Organize and implement a thorough review process
  3. Recruit and supervise junior and senior reviewers
  4. Work with the Art Gallery Chair to coordinate content shown at SIGGRAPH
  5. Provide information to accepted authors regarding formatting, timing, and requirements
  6. Work with the subcommittee to create a presentation schedule for accepted papers
  7. Work with contractors to ensure on-site presentation facilities are appropriate
  8. Work with contractors and PACMCGIT to publish the Special Issue of the Proceedings
  9. Manage the on-site presentation of papers
  10. In coordination with collaborators, documents review process and suggestions for the next Editor and the AAG

Financial

  • Work with the Conference Chair and Event Director to prepare preliminary and final conference budgets for the Art Papers program
  • Manage the Papers budget

Publications

  • Develop the Art Papers section of the Call for Participation
  • Review copies of promotional materials and publications to ensure accurate Art Papers information
  • Work with the publication Coordinator to compile the Art Paper works to be documented in the special issue of PACMCGIT, The Proceedings of the ACM on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques
  • The Art Papers Editor also has the role of Guest Editor for the special issue of PACMCGIT and will be responsible for writing the Guest Editorial section for the publication

Communication

  • Report regularly to the Conference Chair and Event Director on the status of the Art Papers program
  • Facilitate and participate in timely communication with the subcommittee, reviewers, jury, and contributors to provide direction and solve problems
  • Produce a final report by the wrap-up meeting (September) describing the Art Papers process, changes from previous years, and lessons learned

Meetings

  1. Attend and participate in all required Conference Committee meetings and Art Advisory Group meetings
  2. Along with the Art Gallery Chair, organize and implement an effective jury meeting to select Art Papers
