A Radiative Transfer Framework for Rendering Materials With Anisotropic Structure

This paper presents an end-to-end formulation of physics-based volume rendering of anisotropic scattering structures, including a revised anisotropic radiative transfer equation, derivation of matching diffusion matrices, their solution using finite elements, and an anisotropic dipole BSSRDF.

Line-Space Gathering for Single Scattering in Large Scenes

Line-space gathering is a novel and efficient method for collecting single scattering flux along viewing rays. Compared with volumetric photon mapping, this method reduces computation and storage by more than one order of magnitude.

An Artist-Friendly Hair Shading System

Rendering hair in motion pictures is an important and challenging task, but it is often complicated by non-intuitive physical shading models. This paper introduces a novel approach for producing art-directable shading models and shows how it can be used to create a new hair shader that is easier to use than existing shaders.
