Starting in 2009, SIGGRAPH is specifically incorporating content for videogame theorists, creators, producers, and players. In previous years, the ACM SIGGRAPH Sandbox Symposium was a separate event, but it is now integrated into the main SIGGRAPH conference, living on through The Sandbox, Game Papers, and more.
The Sandbox at SIGGRAPH 2009 is a space that serves as the home base for hands-on experience with videogames. It includes:
- Workshop areas for game design, in conjunction with The Studio, featuring toolsets that allow people to play games and look at how they are designed, with instructors.
- Stations to play games that are shown in the Real-Time Rendering section of the Computer Animation Festival.
- IndieCade: An exhibit highlighting innovative, independent game design and development.
