Global Responsibility
We're here only for a short time so we might as well do the right thing.
But what is the right thing?
The Global Responsibility theme encompasses work that addresses ethical issues related to computer graphics and interactive techniques. Our goal is to inform attendees, the discipline, and the world at large about how the social, economic, political, and environmental climate affects our lives and work, and vice versa. This theme provides a foundation for positive outcomes in our communities as well as a commitment to fostering responsible action in and around the SIGGRAPH community.
Topics might include:
- Ethics and truth in computer graphics
- Ownership and copyright in the digital realm
- Sustainability and green consciousness as it applies to the things we create and the devices we use to create them
- Technologies to enhance, communicate, and promote exploration of any of the above.
This theme is open and applicable to everyone, but we specifically encourage artists, educators, inventors, and researchers to submit their work. We welcome all forms of content from all viewpoints, but particularly appropriate are scholarly works; artwork in 2D, 3D, 4D, interactive and installation formats; workshops that teach concepts and skills related to the theme; and displays and demonstrations of technologies that are born from or react to the theme. Cross-disciplinary submissions and those that address multiple presentation formats or media are encouraged.
