Call For Submissions
e•volve | i'välv | verb 1. To change to meet the needs of a dynamic environment.
The annual SIGGRAPH conference is evolving in a new direction to meet the needs of our community. The SIGGRAPH 2008 Committee has created thematic submission areas and categories to guide submissions. Some traditional programs and events will be rolled into different aspects of the conference. And some of our old favorites and cornerstones of the conference are still with us; Technical Papers and the Computer Animation Festival, for example.
If you're ready to join the evolution, please let us know:
- What are you working on?
- What kind of work is it?
- How would you like to present it at SIGGRAPH 2008?
We are soliciting theme-based work to address the greatest challenges and opportunities facing us both as a community and as a society. The common denominator in all accepted work will be the high quality that has always been the hallmark of the SIGGRAPH conference. A jury of leaders in research, arts, science, education, and entertainment will evaluate submissions based on the quality of the work and its importance to our community.
Because one of SIGGRAPH's main missions is to encourage and promote the work of future generations in computer graphics and interactive techniques, we encourage submissions from students, as well as from the world's leading thinkers, researchers, and artists.
The submission and review process emphasizes the work rather than presentation format. We have a single general submission form that allows submitters to describe their work once and propose that it be evaluated for presentation in several different formats. For example, a single submission can simultaneously propose an installation, a performance, and a talk.
The SIGGRAPH community is in a new phase of energetic evolution, and the conference is moving in a new and dynamic direction. However, we can't do any of this without you! Let us explore the future together.

Important Notice on Uploading Materials
18 February 2008
Please do not wait until the last minute! Upload your files as early as possible and follow the other recommendations on the Uploading Files page.
While we have prepared fast servers with lots of bandwidth, there is usually a last-minute rush to upload materials and that could overload our ability to receive your completed work.
Since we realize that many people need to keep working right up to the deadline, we will accept MD5 Checksums (a type of computed file signature/receipt we can use to validate your submission when uploaded).
Here's how it works:
1. Finish preparing all of your files before the materials upload deadline: 27 February 2008, 22:00 UTC/GMT.
2. Compute the MD5 Checksum for each of your files.
3. Before the deadline of 27 February 2008, 22:00 UTC/GMT, instead of uploading your files, enter the MD5 Checksum for each file.
4. After the deadline, you have until 28 February 2008, 22:00 UTC/GMT to finish uploading your actual files with the matching MD5 checksum.
As the 27 February 2008, 22:00 UTC/GMT deadline approaches, depending on server load, we may disable materials uploading and accept only MD5 Checksums. If you cannot upload your materials early, please make sure that you follow the correct MD5 Checksum procedures.
All the details are here.
We encourage everyone to upload early.
Thank you for your cooperation in making the upload process work smoothly for everyone.
Important Submission Notice
28 January 2008
Please don't overlook the General Submission Deadline: Wednesday, 30 January 2008, 22:00 UTC/GMT.
To comply with this deadline, you only need to complete two items:
1. Your submission form(s)
2. Selection of your presentation format(s)
It is not necessary to upload any files before the 30 January deadline. The deadline for final material upload is Wednesday, 27 February 2008, 22:00 UTC/GMT.
To check the status of your submission and complete these items, please go to the SIGGRAPH Information System.
From the main menu, select View My Submissions and check whether both items 1 and 2 are marked COMPLETE for each of your submissions.
In order to conserve server resources and bandwidth, file uploading and downloading may be disabled as the Wednesday, 30 January 2008, 22:00 UTC/GMT General Submission deadline nears. We don't know the exact time when this might take effect. It will be determined by server loads to ensure that all submitters can complete their form(s) and select their presentation format(s) before the deadline.
We are making every effort to ensure the system will always be available. We thank you for your assistance in reaching this goal, and we look forward to receiving your submission.
