As part of SIGGRAPH 2007's new expanded speaker format, Scott McCloud, graphic novelist, will deliver a feature presentation on the fast-changing American comics field. Bolstered by the literary ambitions of the "graphic novel" movement, a flood of international influences, and the growing importance of new technologies, the comics landscape shifts regularly in surprising and increasingly unpredictable directions.
McCloud has been writing and drawing comics since 1984. His book Understanding Comics was a New York Times notable book for 1994 and is available in 16 languages. His new book, Making Comics explores the art and craft of telling stories visually. Sin City and 300 creator Frank Miller, called McCloud "just about the smartest guy in comics."
For 2007, SIGGRAPH has expanded its speaker offerings. In an effort to enhance the SIGGRAPH attendee experience, there will be three Featured Speaker presentations, each representing different key areas of computer graphics and interactive techniques. The three featured presentations will be held on different days and will focus on industry/commerce, art, or research relating to the SIGGRAPH community.

One of the greatest challenges facing many attendees is not having enough time to soak up all the valuable content that a SIGGRAPH conference and exhibition has to offer. Now, you can give them a glimpse into the incredibly rich content that will be featured at SIGGRAPH 2007 before they arrive in San Diego.
SIGGRAPH 2007 Special Sessions feature leading experts in computer graphics, interactive techniques, and beyond and will offer enlightening insights on the art, science, trends, and breakthrough concepts that will define the future of digital technologies. Special
Sessions are as follows:
"Special Sessions provide an exciting perspective of the computer graphics industry," said Jerome Solomon, SIGGRAPH 2007 Special Sessions co-chair from Industrial Light & Magic. "In each session, industry experts will define their vision for the future and discuss how to reach it."
The SIGGRAPH Papers program is the premier international forum for disseminating new scholarly work in computer graphics. This year the Papers Committee accepted a record-setting 108 papers. Not only do these papers span the core areas of modeling, animation, rendering, and imaging, but they also touch on related areas such as visualization, computer vision, human-computer interaction, and applications of computer graphics.
To promote a lively exchange of ideas during the Papers program, we are introducing a system of per-paper discussants. Each paper in the program will be allotted 25 minutes, 20 minutes for presentation of the paper and five minutes for discussion of the paper, with the session chair serving as discussant.
Anyone may submit a question to the discussant for any session. These questions should be scholarly in nature, diplomatically phrased, and specific to one of the papers being presented in that session.
Discover Papers and ask your readers to submit a question to a session chair.
Year after year thousands of attendees flock to the SIGGRAPH exhibition floor to see the lastest cutting edge innovations and new products. This year, SIGGRAPH welcomes an incredible number of new exhibitors.
"We are excited that there are so many new companies at the SIGGRAPH 2007 Exhibition. We will welcome a diverse group of both large global companies and smaller independent organizations," stated Mike Weil, SIGGRAPH 2007 Exhibits Manager. "We are seeing a significant jump in the number of companies that have not previously exhibited. This growth stems from the consistent innovation and strength found at SIGGRAPH."
