Kids Connect is a series of summer workshops that culminates in an original performance by young people in distributed locations (the pilot project includes young people in New York and Amsterdam). Kids from each city are taught theatrical and technology-related skills in a workshop, facilitated by media and theater artists. Then they use those skills to create a performance that occurs both live in theaters and online simultaneously in the virtual world of Second Life, an international gathering place that facilitates collaboration, learning, and creating. The entire process of the show is collaboratively created by the kids, from storyboarding and concept creation to performing and online stream mixing. Through art, media technology, and the internet, kids can connect with kids in other countries and construct a connected performance while creatively learning about other cultures.
