Synapse - Community Outreach Event
Synapse is a series of Los Angeles digital art events during SIGGRAPH 2005. An art exhibition opens Sunday, 31 July 2005 at the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art. The exhibit highlights some of the key accomplishments of the last quarter-century in the development of the Southern California digital art scene from these seven artists:

  • David Em and Tony Longson, two of the first artists anywhere to use computers in their art making process.
  • Victor Acevedo and Michael Wright, early practitioners of PC based computer graphics for desktop printing and video.
  • Michael Masucci and Kate Johnson - writers, filmmakers, and musicians who were early adaptors of using desktop technology to create broadcast quality productions using sound, dialogue and visual art.
  • Anneliese Varaldiev is a photographer and filmmaker who used early digital technology in her work.

    Art Gallery News
Just added to the SIGGRAPH Art Gallery lineup are three Art Panels: The Poetics of Digital Space and Time, Digital Activism, and Curating Digital Art. Plan to attend to hear panelists discuss and debate each other in a free-flowing format that generates consensus, controversy, confusion, and clarity - sometimes simultaneously. For complete details, click here.

Art Gallery Talks, scheduled Monday through Friday from 10:30 to 12 Noon, are lively, fast-paced sessions that take place in the gallery to encourage a more informal, open-ended dialog between artists and SIGGRAPH attendees. The talks - including Blurring As Transformation and Devices: Where's the Art? - are designed to encapsulate many of the guiding themes underlying the exhibition in the Art Gallery. For a complete list, click here.
