  Important Notice
Tickets are required for entrance to the morning session of this course, in the Imax Dome Theater at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park. SIGGRAPH 2003 shuttle buses leave the San Diego Convention Center at 7:30 am to deliver attendees to the morning session. Tickets for the session will be distributed to Full Conference registrants who board the buses. There is no additional charge for tickets, but they are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendance is limited to the 300-seat capacity of the Imax Dome Theater. Attendees must be aboard the buses when they depart at 7:30 am, and when they return immediately after the morning session. There will be no other conference buses for this venue.

Attendees who have tickets for the morning session will be seated first for the afternoon session.

25. Computer Graphics for Large-Scale Immersive Theaters

Level: Intermediate

Large-scale immersive digital cinema ("fulldome") theaters represent a new and rapidly growing medium. This course summarizes immersive theater technologies and graphics production for dome theaters, including real-time and pre-rendered techniques. It features cutting-edge immersive productions at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center's IMAX Dome Theater.

Prerequisites
General knowledge of basic computer graphics theory and practice including perspective projection, modeling, rendering, and animation.

Topics
Creative techniques in immersive productions. Production tools and techniques, including spherical rendering, cubic rendering, image stitching, spherical image mapping, edge blending and real-time image generation. Immersive productions from leading animators and students.
