29. Clothing Simulation and Animation
Monday, Half Day, 1:45 - 5:30 pm
Room 33 A-C
Level: Intermediate
An introduction to state-of-the-art techniques for simulating and animating clothing. This course presents low-level models of cloth, numerical simulation methods, and collision-handling procedures. It closes with a description of the clothing animation techniques utilized by a major animation production company.
Prerequisites
Rudimentary knowledge of computer graphics, computer animation, geometric modeling, linear algebra, and numerical computing.
Topics
How cloth simulation works. Evolution of cloth animation. Particle-based
models of cloth. Stable but responsive cloth. Numerical techniques for cloth
simulation. Collision detection and handling. Clothing animation in the film
industry.
