"Sketches & Applications is a forum for researchers, developers, artists, gamers, and anyone working in a field related to computer graphics and interactive techniques," said Doug Roble, SIGGRAPH 2002 Sketches & Applications Chair from Digital Domain. "Presentations range from their latest research and ideas, the way they produced an effect in a film or made a piece of artwork, to the latest technology in computer graphics."

SIGGRAPH 2002 received 263 submissions from 22 countries. Of the accepted 149 sketches, 91 are classified as technical, 26 art, 28 animation, and four emerging technologies.

Jason L. Mitchell
ATI Research
An image-space algorithm that uses pixel shaders to render silhouette, crease, shadow, and texture outlines of 3D scenes in real time on consumer-level graphics hardware.

Body Building through Weight Training: Using Fitting Techniques for Skin Animation
Corina Xiaohuan Wang
Industrial Light + Magic
A process called multi-weight enveloping for deforming the skin geometry of a digital creature around its skeleton using a statistical fit to an input training exercise.

MaterMotion: Full Body Wireless Virtual Reality for Tai Chi
Russell Schaaf
Carnegie Mellon University
A full-body motion-capture and wireless virtual reality system applied to Tai Chi training and online feedback mechanisms that aid learning.

Games

Cameras and Perspective in the Gamespace
Jay Riddle
