SIGGRAPH 2002 Announces HARRY MARKS, AWARD
WINNING BROADCAST DESIGNER, TO PRODUCE PRESTIGIOUS ELECTRONIC
THEATER
Showcase of the Year's Finest Computer Graphics Work for
Film, Video & Computer Entertainment
(Chicago, IL) -- SIGGRAPH 2002 announced today that Harry
Marks, award winning broadcast designer, will produce
the Electronic Theater for the SIGGRAPH 2002 Computer
Animation Festival. SIGGRAPH 2002, the 29th International
Conference on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques,
is being held 21 - 26 July, 2002 in San Antonio, Texas.
"The SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival is an internationally
recognized and highly anticipated showcase that documents
significant advances in technology, interactive techniques,
and the seemingly unlimited creative potential of computer
graphics," said John McIntosh, Chair of Computer Arts
at the School of VISUAL ARTS® and SIGGRAPH 2002 Computer
Animation Festival Chair. "It is an honor to have Harry
Marks produce the Electronic Theater. Harry's vast experience
and creative expertise has made him a legend in broadcast
design. His achievements as an artist are only surpassed
by his generosity in mentoring, supporting and inspiring
artists and designers worldwide. Harry is a regular attendee
at SIGGRAPH conferences and he very excited about being
part of the Computer Animation Festival."
Pushing the boundaries of computer technology, Marks has
earned nearly every award in broadcast design and promotion,
including an Emmy and the very first Life Achievement
Award from the Broadcast Design Association.
Marks began his career as a publications designer at Oxford
University Press before moving to the United States at
20 years old. Settling in San Francisco, Marks had a wide
variety of jobs in a quest to return to his chosen field
of typography. The search finally led to positions with
University of California Press and other Bay Area publishers.
In the mid-1960s, he moved to Los Angeles where he worked
for both ABC and CBS as vice president and creative director
for on-air advertising and spent six years as an independent
graphics consultant for NBC. As a senior advisor to the
American Film Institute's Advanced Technology Program,
he has enjoyed the opportunity to share his interests,
passion and expertise in the converging world of technology,
entertainment, and design.
