  The Design of Design

Designing computers, graphics hardware, programming languages, operating systems, and big applications seems to have a lot in common across media. These same commonalities are also found in the processes of designing buildings, and even organizations. The design process itself is a subject of intense study in disciplines such as building architecture, mechanical engineering, and industrial design.

Three major trends have changed design since WWII: design by teams, design by designers who could not themselves make the designed object, and the promulgation of formal design models and processes. This lecture reviewed some analysis opinions on design and how it should be done.
