Candidate for Director of Chapters - Martin Talbot

Martin Talbot

Candidate for Director of Chapters

SIGGRAPH has become a fast international changing organization that evolves in new directions every year.  To keep up globally we have to keep a lively connection throughout the year amongst ours members, partners and friends, professional and student. I believe that we can reach that goal by having active and lively chapters throughout the world.

My goals as a Director of Chapters would be to help new chapters start up, increase and facilitate communication between existing chapters and provide support to the chapters.

Over the last 5 years I founded 2 chapters, Montreal and Vancouver.  I learned that it is a very interesting and rewarding project that can't be done alone.  It is important to have a core group of people dedicated to it.  It is by helping individuals to gather a core group of people in their local community that they will be successful at creating a chapter.

With the new SIGGRAPH web portal we can develop new ways of communication amongst the chapter leaders. With those new tools, sharing of experience, tricks and success stories will be easier.  We have to learn from each other to be active and lively.

Finally chapters need support and guidance throughout the year with many different issues. Leveraging on my experience as a local chapter leader and the new communication tools we will be able to provide a fast ongoing support to all chapter leaders.

It is with the international local chapters that SIGGRAPH will be able to grow and keep up with the fast changing world and bring new members to SIGGRAPH.
