Welcome 2007!

I say “Welcome 2007!” to the entire SIGGRAPH community and to a new round of compelling issues of “Computer Graphics”, the ACM SIGGRAPH e-newsletter that will come directly to your e-mailbox four times a year.

What you want to share and what you have to say is what we want to read. What cool activities are going on in your community? Is it educational, research oriented, a journey of personal or financial growth? What is the inside story of that CG effect, only privy to a handful of digital engineers or artists? What is that new innovation that will hit the streets, affecting us all? We want to hear it.

Also, we want to hear about you. Care to share it with the rest of us in a “Members at Work” article? Or maybe you know of someone to whom we should all be introduced.

This is your newsletter. It is your submissions that make it great.

In this issue we hear from the Singapore chapter and their trip to Thailand. Mikki Rose sends out a call for student volunteers and Jim Kilmer informs us about a new student services initiative.

And talk about breaking news! We get to hear about pioneers and members that play in sandboxes!

Read about two new books coming hot off the press, authored by esteemed ACM/SIGGRAPH members Terrence Masson and Alyn Rockwood – and that’s not all! Read on and enjoy.

Special thanks to Valerie Tuffy, student extraordinaire from San Francisco for volunteering as assistance editor and second cover editor!
