Meet the new members of the Education Committee

The ACM Education Committee is proud to announce the following people to its ranks. These people will be instrumental in the development of the Education Committee initiatives in the upcoming year.

As members of the ACM SIGGRAPH committee we welcome input and participation in these initiatives.  Please contact these members if you have an interest in their area of oversight.

The over arching goals of the Education committee are:

  • To encourage and facilitate efforts that connects education communities, better the educational process, and trigger innovation and creativity.
  • To support projects and activities that further educational development in the field, and evaluate these projects to ensure they meet the needs of the educator and learner.
  • To provide global online resources for educators that help to define a knowledge base for the discipline, to identify curriculum and core competencies, and to provide innovative learning tools and pedagogy.
  • To offer a resource structure to enable future educators to continue in the development of the field.

Tereza Flaxman, Eduction Database Coordinator

Tereza of Rochester Institute of Technology will be the new Education Database Coordinator. Her role will be the management of the Academic Index. Tereza will work with the ACM SIGGRAPH System Administration team to plan the implementation of the online database.

Amanda Fisk, Education Admin

Amanda is a graduate student in the Department of Digital Arts (formerly (Computer

Graphics) at Pratt Institute. As Education Admin, she is responsible for general administrative and clerical assistance, including planning and management of meetings, as well as general onsite Education Committee assistance at the annual conference.

James Martinez, Primary & Secondary (K-12) Education

James is faculty member at the Wye River Upper School. He is examining how to begin addressing the needs of primary and secondary education within the ACM SIGGRAPH Education Committee. James has already entered into discussions with SIGGRAPH 2007 Educators Chair, Janese Swanson, to have a presence at the Annual Conference.  The Education Committee is referring to James' area as primary and secondary education, rather than K-12,  in order to be internationally relevant.

Jacki Morie, Game Education Coordinator

Jacki is an artist and researcher working out of USC, and a SIGGRAPH veteran. She is interested in finding ways the Education Committee can address the needs of the game education community. Jacki joined Education Director Rick Barry in a meeting with IGDA representatives during SIGGRAPH 2006, to discuss possibilities for collaboration.

Bryson Payne, Open Source Coordinator

Bryson is a colleague of Scott Owen from North Georgia College & State University. He has volunteered to undertake two projects. First, he’ll be updating the existing HyperGraph and HyperViz content on the Education site. Second, he’ll be creating an Open Source resource page on the Education site, as a service to the community. Bryson hope this will evolve into a must-visit location for Open Source information.

Dena Eber, Space-Time Competition/Exhibition Coordinator

Dena is an artist and educator working out of Boiling Green State University, and a SIGGRAPH veteran. She will be heading up the Space-Time Student Competition and Exhibition for the next three years. A number of modifications are planned to improve the program. Among these is the expansion of the Print competition to include both design posters and art prints. There will also be an effort to enhance the exhibition by providing a more professional venue at the conference.

Sandra Villarreal, Communications Designer

Sandra is a professional designer, Digital Arts MFA from Pratt Institute, and masters candidate of the New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program. She will be responsible for the planning, design and production of the Education Committee’s annual report and Space-Time catalog. Sandra will also be responsible for design oversight on all public Education Committee communications.
