Position Descriptions - SIGGRAPH
Up one levelThe following brief descriptions offer an overview of the roles and responsibilities of SIGGRAPH Committee Chairs. Additional detailed descriptions and qualifications are available for each position.
- CAG Chair
- The CAG Chair oversees the activities of the Conference Advisory Group which provides multi-year policy and procedural oversight for all conference planning.
- Conference Chair
- The Conference Chair oversees the organization and activities of the conference committee. The Chair leads the rest of the committee to plan and produce the conference.
- Director
- The SIGGRAPH Directors are responsible for the planning, selection process, and implementation of both submitted and curated content. The Directors work closely with the Conference Chair, the Chief Staff Executive (CSE), volunteers, and contractors to produce an exciting and provocative computer graphics and interactive techniques conference.
- Computer Animation Festival Chair
- The Computer Animation Festival Chair produces an entertaining and informative representation of the highest quality computer animation. The chair recruits and supervises both a sub-committee and a jury, and interacts with contributors on formats, timing and many other editing requirements necessary for final production.
- Technical Papers Chair
- The Technical Papers chair manages the world's premier forum for the most definitive research in computer graphics and interactive techniques. The chair recruits and supervises a committee of expert reviewers representing a diverse disciplinary field, interacts with contributors on presentation, timing, and other requirements, and coordinates the on-site presentation sessions.
- Art Gallery Chair
- The Art Gallery chair compiles and mounts an exhibit of innovative, high-quality, fine art and/or design produced using computer graphics and interactive techniques. The chair manages the review process, either juried or curated. The chair oversees space design, interaction with contributors, shipping, assembly and tear down of the show.
- GraphicsNet Chair
- The SIGGRAPH GraphicsNet Chair is responsible for the planning and implementation of the on-site networking infrastructure necessary to support the annual conference. The GraphicsNet Chair works closely with the Conference Chair, the Chief Staff Executive (CSE), volunteers, the convention center, and contractors to produce a sophisticated high-speed communication channel that links various programs within the conference both internally together and externally with the Internet.
- Educators Program Chair
- The Educators Program chair compiles a program exploring issues and innovative uses of computer graphics and interactive techniques in education, including programming about the teaching of computer graphics and interactive techniques. The chair may curate presentations, as well as recruit and supervise a jury. The chair interacts with contributors on formats, timing and other requirements, and manages on-site seminars.
- Studio Chair
- The Studio chair leads a staff of volunteers to plan and implement a creative and robust workshop environment where conference attendees can experiment with various input and output technologies and explore preselected Conference work. The chair oversees Studio content, schedules activities, and coordinates acquisition of equipment and resources for this hands-on workshop.
- Outreach Chair
- The Outreach chair recruits and supervises a committee of volunteers to coordinate outreach activities, including programming for new attendees, bringing in content from strategic areas, coordinating with the local chapter for community outreach, and other special programs as determined by the Outreach Chair, such as sigKIDS. The chair works with other program chairs during the Call for Participation process to assist in encouraging the submission of content from strategic areas.
- Student Volunteer (SV) Chair
- The SV chair manages a large team of students who support the operational needs of the conference. In the process, these future computer graphics and interactive technique gurus gain valuable professional and personal experiences, are exposed to technology and creative endeavors, and often meet and work with pioneers in the field. The chair works with the committee to implement the selection process, determine volunteer requirements for the various programs, and coordinates the student volunteer activities on-site.
- X Student Volunteer (XSV) Chair
- The SIGGRAPH XSV (Ex Student Volunteer) Chair is responsible for the planning, selection process, and management of the annual conference XSV program. The XSV Chair works closely with the Conference Chair, the Chief Staff Executive (CSE), volunteers, and contractors to create a volunteer program for recently graduated students that would like to become involved in a committee level of the conference.
- SIGGRAPH Conference Chair Application and Selection Process
- The Conference Chair is critical to the success of the annual conference. A wide range of talent is necessary to complete the diversity of tasks necessary to successfully lead the conference committee. The selection process needs to carefully consider the qualifications of Chair candidates prior to recommending a Chair for EC approval. This document describes the process of applying for and selecting the Conference Chair.
- Art Papers Chair
- The Art Papers chair manages SIGGRAPH’s forum for honoring artists and their artwork, as well as their process of making art and its place in society. Art Papers illuminate and explore the changing roles of artists and the methods of art-making in our increasingly networked and computationally mediated world. Art Papers presented at SIGGRAPH are also published in a special issue of Leonardo, The Journal of the International Society of the Arts, Sciences and Technology. The issue also includes visual documentation of the works exhibited in the Art Gallery.
