Business Symposium Chair

Overview

The Business Symposium Chair develops an intimate, interactive forum for discussion of the business of our business from a high-level, experiential vantage point. This full-day experience brings together leaders, creators, global business entrepreneurs, legal professionals, artists, financiers, producers, and executives from a broad spectrum of computer graphics, animation, education, motion pictures, gaming, and visual effects to explore the present and future of our industry and community. The chair recruits and supervises both a sub-committee and a jury, and interacts with contributors on formats, timing and many other editing requirements necessary for final production.  The Business Symposium Chair works closely with the Conference Chair, the Chief Staff Executive (CSE), volunteers, and contractors to produce an informative session.

  • experience with project / fiscal management
  • deadline-driven; able to organize and respond quickly
  • able to devote the necessary time
  • ready access to necessary resources to produce the day’s meeting, including the necessary contacts to invite guest speakers
  • participated in past SIGGRAPH Business Symposium programs as a contributor and/or subcommittee member
  • understands the role of the Business Symposium within the SIGGRAPH conference and community
     

Specific Responsibilities

The following list is a "high-level" view of the specific responsibilities associated with serving as Business Symposium Chair. The list is organized under general categories of responsibility.

Strategic

  • Participate in strategic planning for the SIGGRAPH Conference
  • Create a strategic direction for the Business Symposium including the ability to develop the agenda and seed the group discussions for the program 

Management

  • Invite Featured Speakers to lead group discussions based on the vision of the program
  • Work with subcommittee to create a presentation schedule and venue for accepted works
  • Work with contractors to ensure the on-site logistics of the meeting and the needs of the program are realized 

Financial

  • Work with the Conference Chair and CSE to prepare preliminary and final conference budgets for the Business Symposium
  • Manage the Business Symposium budget

Publications

  • Review copies of promotional materials and publications to ensure accurate Business Symposium Information

Communication

  • Report regularly to the Conference Chair and CSE on the status of the Business Symposium program and agenda
  • Produce a final report by the wrap-up meeting in September describing the Business Symposium  process, changes from previous years, and lessons learned

Meetings

  • Attend and participate in all conference committees meetings
