Calls for Candidates for two Standing Committee Chairs

Candidates are needed for the following two positions - Chair of the Small Conferences Committee and Chair of SIGGRAPH Student Services (S3)

Chair of the Small Conferences Committee

The committee's primary role is to review applications (through ACM) from small conferences who wish to obtain SIGGRAPH sponsorship, co-sponsorship or in-cooperation status.  The rules and forms are on the ACM site under http://www.acm.org/sigs/volunteer_resources/.

Other areas of interest include better integration of event awareness and outputs (enduring material/content) from events to the broader community.

The chair will perform most of this through email and one meeting a year at the SIGGRAPH conference.
The chair will also act as a channel for ideas to and from Small Conferences, the EC-liaison and the SIGGRAPH and SIGGRAPH Asia conferences.
This often involves discussions with other EC chairs, and officers of ACM.

Candidates should be familiar with the small conferences that ACM supports and must be a member of ACM and ACM SIGGRAPH.

If you are interested in this position, please contact Scott Owen at: (scott_owen at siggraph.org). The search shall remain open until Sept. 7, 2011.

Chair of SIGGRAPH Student Services (S3)

The S3 Chair is responsible for managing the volunteers who provide the suite of services to student members of ACM SIGGRAPH. They provide on-site support to the SV program at the annual
SIGGRAPH conference, and as budget allows, SIGGRAPH Asia. They also provide some continuity between the years by maintaining the documentation necessary to run the Conference Student Volunteer (SV) program. In addition, the S3 Chair, and the current and next SV chairs are responsible for vetting candidates to be SV chair the following year and making a recommendation to the
conference chair. On-site, the S3 Committee also works with volunteers to do reel, resume and portfolio review for student members of ACM SIGGRAPH (130 or so at SIGGRAPH 2011), and host the student volunteer alumni reunion in conjunction with the chapters party.

Throughout the year, the S3 Committee provides online reel, resume and portfolio review in several cycles. It also hosts several webinars via GoToWebinar designed for student members. It is also building a web presence for student members to be a part of the ACM SIGGRAPH web site which will include forums for student members to interact with each other, and with mentors, forums specific to the SIGGRAPH conference, and forums dedicated to student volunteers. The Committee also plans to have an area where students can post a profile to aid in pairing them up with mentors, and to integrate the starting points for the reel and resume review, and webinars into the ACM SIGGRAPH site.

Candidates should be familiar with the Student Volunteer program at SIGGRAPH and SIGGRAPH Asia and must be a member of ACM and ACM SIGGRAPH.

If you are interested in this position, please contact Scott Owen at: (scott_owen at siggraph.org). The search shall remain open until Sept. 7, 2011.
