CG Pioneer Bill Kovacs Passes Away
Bill Kovacs, who co-founded Wavefront Technologies, earned a 1997 Academy Award for science and engineering innovations and who worked as a programmer on TRON, passed away last Tuesday at his home in Camarillo, California. Kovacs, who was 56, died of a stroke in his sleep brought on by a cerebral hemorrhage.
Election results
The ACM SIGGRAPH 2006 election results are in. Jeff Jortner was elected Treasurer, Rick Barry was elected Director for Education and Jim Kilmer was elected Director at Large. New offices begin on July 1, 2006. We appreciate the commitment to ACM SIGGRAPH that all the candidates made in accepting the nominations. We are sure that such outstanding volunteers will have many other opportunities to serve within ACM SIGGRAPH, and we look forward to continuing to work with all the candidates.
Digital Arts Committee formed
ACM SIGGRAPH Has formed a Digital Arts Committee to coordinate efforts in this area.
Computer Graphics Education 06 workshop in Vienna, September 9, 2006
ACM SIGGRAPH and Eurographics are pleased to announce that there will be another computer graphics education workshop this summer, held in conjunction with the Eurographics 06 conference in Vienna and its conference education programme.
ACM SIGGRAPH members honored by Academy
Congratulations to members of the ACM SIGGRAPH Community who received 2005 Scientific and Technical Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Scientific and Technical Awards are given for devices, methods, formulas, discoveries or inventions of special and outstanding value to the arts and sciences of motion pictures that also have a proven history of use in the motion picture industry.
