CONFERENCE ACTIVITIES

Scott Owen announced that he will be out of email touch June 2 - 16. Warren Waggenspack will serve as temporary chair of the Conference Advisory Group during that time.

Scott Owen announced that SIGGRAPH 2000 has now sold 7000 square feet of exhibit space over what was budgeted and that registration numbers are higher than they were at this time last year.

Scott Owen presented a request for approval to spend $50,000 from the Conference Reserve Fund for a market analysis by Wanda Meloni. This would include a market analysis in computer graphics and emerging technologies, attendee survey, and a web-based potential attendee survey.

Motion: To approve spending $50,000 from the Conference Reserve Fund for the market analysis and surveys by Wanda Meloni (Owen, Rhyne: 8,0,0).

POLICIES

Scott Owen presented some draft polices for the use of cameras at the conference, for volunteers serving in more than one position, and for conflict of interest. These are still undergoing revisions. It was felt that the latter two had organizational-wide impact. The Chair will look into how these apply to the organization as a whole.

STUDENT RESEARCH POSTER COMPETITION

ACM holds a student research poster competition at the SIGCSE conference and asked about interest from other SIGs in participating in this. It was felt that this could complement the current activities of the SIGGRAPH Education Committee, but it would need an advocate to make it work. Mike McGrath will talk further with David Arnold from the ACM membership board about it.

MOVIE UPDATE

Leo Hourvitz reported that they are now producing a TV aspect ratio version of the movie, that they expect to have an issue of the movie in NTSC for sale as a SIGGRAPH Video Review (SVR) by S2000, that they are making a DVD but it won't be ready by S2000, and that they are in the process of getting rights to some of the Lucasfilm parts. They have occasional public showings and are in negotiation with a company to create a Japanese version.
