1. Movie Distribution Plan

Leo Hourvitz presented the plan for distribution of the SIGGRAPH Movie, "The Story of Computer Graphics." Questions were raised about whether the basic sound problems had been fixed and whether movie showings could be used as an opportunity to promote the SIGGRAPH organization by distributing information about the organization. It was also felt that final decision on the showing of the Movie should be made by the SIGGRAPH Director for Communications. If others have concerns about a particular venue, they should make their concerns known to the Director for Communications, who will make the decision.

Garry Paxinos led the preliminary budget discussions.

* Chair Budget

Judy Brown presented the preliminary budget for the SIGGRAPH Chair, which includes the budgets for Finance, Nominations, and Public Policy committees.

2. SIGGRAPH Conference Proceedings Digitization project

Stephen Spencer presented a progress report and a funding request for the digitization project. The digitization of the 1975 through 1994 SIGGRAPH conference proceedings books should be completed within two weeks. Xerox has indicated interest in doing more of the same work for us in the future, which fits our long-term plans to make out-of-print small conference proceedings available in similarfashion in the future. However, the $20,000 allocated to this project in April 1999 is inadequate to handle the quality of color that SIGGRAPH Proceedings require. An additional $17,000 is required for the color retention of the images and charts in the proceedings.

Motion: To approve spending an additional $17,000 on the SIGGRAPH Conference Proceedings Digitization project. This additional amount, to be taken from SIGGRAPH EC reserve funds, is needed for the retention of the color in the images and charts.

(Spencer, Hourvitz) (unanimous approval)

Garry Paxinos' vote was recorded later by email.
