Nonphotorealistic
Rendering in Scientific Visualization
all day Monday
8-13-01, however this is just a few notes on Victoria Interrante's
talk, which was excellent.
The talk started
with the motivation for NPR in SciViz. Drawing from many sources
of illustrations from many disciples, Victoria showed the strengths
and weaknesses of photos, shaded drawings, line and silhouette drawing
and cartoon drawing. Depending on the task and information they
all turn out to be best for somethings and much worse for others.
The primary use
of NPR is to emphasize the important features and deemphasize the
secondary details or remove them entirely.
