Architecture is design in a spatial context. Current methods for representing context involve designing in a heavyweight Computer-Aided Design (CAD) system, using a full model of existing buildings and landscape, or sketching on a panoramic view. We present a new approach to representing context in a lightweight conceptual design system.

We introduce the concept of adaptive partitioning to automatically derive a flexible and hierarchical representation of 3D urban facades. The splitting direction as well as the number and location of splitting planes are all adaptively determined. Such a concept is also applicable to flexible and robust analysis of image facades.

Conjoining Gestalt Rules for Abstraction of Architectural Drawings


We present a method for structural summarization and abstraction of complex architectural drawings based on Gestalt rules. We develop a computational framework that models complex interactions between different rules using multi-label graph cut. Our method efficiently solves visual ambiguities resulting in a visual consistent abstraction of the scene.
