The Stereographer has the responsibility of creatively designing the stereo experience for the film. Each shot's stereo volume should be directly related with the shot before it and with the shot after it, and in addition keeping the visual proportions of the world consistent and correct. Every DP and Editor guide the viewer's eye to where it should be looking in the projected frame, the Stereographer also must guide the viewer's eyes to the proper depth in the stereo volume that is being experienced. Once the Stereographer decides to keep the proportions correct, the apparent scale of X, Y and Z in any given shot, the stereoscopic parameters don't have much creative interpretation and in reality is heavily dependent on the original photography.

Sandra Ford Karpman has worked in the film making industry for 27 years. She spent 18 years at Industrial Light + Magic, working on the traditional motion control animation stands then transitioned to the computer graphics department. She helped grow the computer graphics department from theoretical to the actual. For the past 9 years she has been working at Pixar Animation Studios.
