PhysX 3 has a revamped toolset for character clothing. In this session, we
will demonstrate and explain each feature of the new clothing engine. The
new character clothing engine is specifically tailored toward the needs of
game developers, focusing on high performance as well as addressing
previously difficult issues such as character collisions.
The techniques include new constraint solvers, virtual particle algorithm for
collision, and optimized API and pipeline for character clothing. Each feature
is optimized for various platforms such as SSE (CPU), CUDA (GPU), Xbox,
and PS3. We will also discuss challenges in adapting each algorithm for
various platforms.
Tae-Yong Kim is an R&D engineer at NVIDIA and a member of the clothing
engine team for PhysX 3. He is also working on various research problems
related to real-time physics simulation within the PhysX Research team.
Prior to the roles in NVIDIA, he had worked at Rhythm and Hues Studios
for eight years. He wrote various software for over 80 Hollywood films,
including Chronicles of Narnia, Superman Returns, The incredible Hulk, and
Mummy 3. He holds an MS degree and PhD from the University of Southern
California, and a BS degree from Seoul National University.
