SymbiosisO is a collection of interactive design objects that combine smart textiles with soft electronics. The biologically inspired artifacts represent the symbiosis between a cyber organism and a human being. The fabricated hybrid material can be considered an organic display; it reacts to unique environmental stimuli and responds by changing its colour and pattern. SymbiosisI represents the symbiotic relationship between the organism and specified data transferred through the Internet. Instead of using bright, noisy, vibrating screens that are uncomfortable and expensive to operate continuously, we believe there are alternative ways of showing information. SymbiosisI explores such; a natural solution. Instead of pixels we operate with pictogram-like patches in the material that can be memorized and connected to information. The patterns are designed so that one can sense the quantitative difference depending on how many patches are triggered. Being in the 21st century, information is easy to reach; we find it important to have the data flexible and personalized, so everybody can decide on the information to display. We aim to provide a web page in which one can set-up what he wants to monitor. SymbiosisI might gather data from Pachube; react to the weather changes or show the usage of electricity in the household. This data is unpredictable and behaves like a living specie therefore we also see its beauty as a living seed in our organic display.
