Pixel
Puzzle was conceived by Marla Schweppe, chair of the SIGGRAPH 99 Art Gallery.
She wanted to have a work associated with the gallery that would require
the participation of conference attendees. An 8' by 10' black, soft velcro
'screen' was constructed.
2"
x 2" foam core 'pixels' were provided with velcro 'hooks' on the back.
Human participants, rather than a computer, arranged the 'pixels' on the
velcro screen as a time lapse video was recorded of the evolution of the
work. The video was screened in the gallery on the last day of the conference
and excerpts are available here.
