The Coons and Achievement Awards were established. The Chair was appointed. The committee is to be approved by the Board. This committee will pick award recipients, with Board approval. (Nov 9, 1981)

SIGGRAPH Outstanding Service Award was approved, to be administered by a Service Awards Chair and an appropriate committee, to be given in even numbered years.

The charter of the ACM SIGGRAPH Outstanding Service Award shall be changed to be as follows:
The ACM SIGGRAPH Service Award is to given in even-numbered years to recognize a career of outstanding service to ACM SIGGRAPH by a volunteer. It recognizes an individual who has given extraordinary service to ACM SIGGRAPH both in the trenches and in positions of more responsibility or visibility, over a significant period of time. This award shall be administered by a designated Service Awards Chair who will create an appropriate committee, and shall be based upon nominations to the Service Awards Chair. The award shall consist of a plaque and full travel expenses and registration to the SIGGRAPH annual conference at which the award shall be given. (July 29, 2000)
To give recipients of the Outstanding Volunteer Award lifetime ACM SIGGRAPH affiliate membership, not including subscription to the annual conference publications.(January 27-28, 2001)
Added the Outstanding New Computer Graphics Researcher Award (August 14, 1999)
To increase the endowment to include the Significant New Computer Graphics Researcher Award and the Outstanding Service Award. (January 12, 2000)
To give recipients of the Coons Award a sculpture, rather than a cash award. (January 27-28, 2001) The Coons Award winners will now receive a commissioned mathematical sculpture rather than cash, and the design has been finished (May, 2003). Seven pieces were ordered for 2002-2003, with former Coons Awards winners having the opportunity to purchase one.
